Aljarreod Peterson is the new head boys varsity basketball coach at Foundation Academy. He previously spent five seasons as the head junior-varsity coach at East Ridge High School and coached at the highest Amateur Athletic Union level. Peterson has a 55-33 record at the junior-varsity level, and he led ERHS to a record-breaking 14-5 season in 2010-11. A native of Gainesville, Peterson graduated from Santa Fe High School as a triple threat All-American athlete. He earned a full football scholarship to the University of Central Florida, where he played from 2001-05. |

Three members of the Dr. Phillips Pop Warner Jr. Pee Wee Panthers team were honored as 2011-12 All-American Scholars. Colin “C.J.” Cantwell, Thomas Furry and Derrick Mays were recognized for placing in the top 2 percent academically of the 400,000 students who participate in the Pop Warner program. The boys were also invited to the 52nd All-American Weekend held last month in Orlando. |

Orlando Area Rowing Society recorded five first-place finishes at the Orlando City Championship Regatta. Winning boats were the men’s junior-varsity, 3rd varsity 8 and freshmen four. The women’s varsity 8 and lightweight 4 also won their respective races. The event was a 1,500-meter race, and OARS competed against two rowing clubs and four Central Florida high schools. |

Dr. Phillips residents and Palm Lake Elementary School students Johnathan Tinkley and Brendan Valdes competed in the U.S. Kids Golf Orlando Winter Local Tour 2011 tournament. Johnathan finished in the top five in the 9-year-olds division; and Brendan placed first in the 8-year-olds division, earning him player-of-the-year honors. |
