The Lake Cane Tennis Center Jordan tennis team, led by captain Patrick Jordan, bested five other local teams to take home top honors from the Central Florida Men’s Tennis League Brass Division Championships. Congratulations to Southwest residents and team members Hervin Alvarez, Jim Butler, Scott Dabney, David Humphrey, Bob Jackman, Patrick Jordan, Matt Lillenthal, Mike McGuffie, Ozzie Plaza, Mark Pulliam, Steve Roberts, Mike Sabitov, Alfredo Salman, Chris Scramoncin and Peter Weil.

The Vipers girls 12-under travel ice hockey team, the only 12-under all-girls hockey team in Florida, will represent the Southeast district of the U.S. at the 2012 USA Hockey Girls’ National Championships in Irving, Texas. This is the first year the
8- through 12-year-olds have played together, and this will be their first national tournament. The team, which is based out of The Ice Factory of Central Florida, is seeking sponsorship support from the community to assist with expenses related to the tournament.

ISM Soccer 6- and 7-year-olds Christian Acevedo, Coco Araiza, Peter Burch, Gavin Penzone, Gio Testa and Mikah Thomas won their division at the Kick It 3v3 World Championships held at ESPN Wide World of Sports. More than 25 teams from across the U.S. participated in the prestigious tournament. The Windermere team is coached by Omar Acevedo and Daniel Araiza.

The Windermere RipTide baseball team is named 12-under division champion at the First Crack Classic held in Daytona Beach. Celebrating their win are (front, l. to r.) After receiving a nomination from Rep. Daniel Webster, Dr. Phillips High School senior Jack Orchard was accepted to The Hill School in Pottstown, Penn., one of the country’s top college preparatory schools. The two-time All-American athlete will join the school’s elite water polo team. The following year, Orchard will attend the U.S. Naval Academy, where he will continue his water polo career. Upon graduation from the Naval Academy, he will serve the U.S. as a commissioned officer for at least five years, possibly as a rescue swimmer/instructor and, potentially, a Navy Seal.

The Orlando All-Stars White Sox took home top honors in the Junior Coed Level 3 division at the 2012 State Cheer & Dance Championships held in Daytona Beach. The White Sox train at OA’s cheer gym in Gotha and are coached by Carly Human and Audrey Peterson.

The Insurance Office of America 18th annual Corporate 5K will be held April 12 at 7:15 p.m. in downtown Orlando’s Lake Eola Park. More than 15,000 runners and walkers from more than 700 companies are expected to participate.

The cost is $24 through March 29 and $28 from March 30 through April 11. All proceeds benefit Track Shack Foundation, which provides health and fitness opportunities through funding for youth athletic programs.

The Windermere 5K Run Among the Lakes will be held April 14 at Windermere Town Hall on Main Street. The 5K run/walk begins at 8 a.m., followed by the Kids Run at 9:15 a.m. and awards ceremony at 9:30 a.m.
