Gerald R. Mattia, D.C., has 35 years of experience as a chiropractic physician. He earned his chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College in 1976 and has been a member of the International Chiropractic Association for 37 years. He was the Northeast regional director and a member of the board of directors of the ICA. He was named chiropractor of the year and sports chiropractor of the year and was appointed to the Board of Chiropractic Examiners by the governor of New Jersey. Dr. Mattia, served as president of the ICA Sports and Fitness Council for 18 years and currently holds the immediate past president role. He annually joins Arnold Schwarzenegger for the ICA Fitness Symposium. He practices several chiropractic techniques, including decompression therapy, specializing in disc problems in the low back and neck, and he travels the country speaking about this subject. After he was in a near-fatal car accident as a teenager, Dr. Newton began a long and painful recovery process. After years of physical therapy, he sought chiropractic care and was soon pain-free. This experience inspired him to enter the medical field with the goal of becoming a chiropractor. In 1980, he graduated from the University of the Cumberlands in Willamsburg, Ky., as a registered nurse, specializing in intensive care. Dr. Newton continued his education at Life University College of Chiropractic in Marietta, Ga., where he graduated with honors and as salutatorian of his class. He also studied physiotherapy at Brenau University in Atlanta and has been a chiropractor since 1988.
