YMCA of Central Florida Water Polo’s boys 14-under Gladiators team traveled to Bloomington, Ind., to compete in the USA Water Polo Turbo Champions Cup. This is USA Water Polo’s most prestigious annual event for age-group athletes. The Gladiators worked for four years to qualify for the national tournament. |

Foundation Academy senior Scotty Brazell was selected by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association as the punter for the District 11 All-Star football team. The team captain is a three-year starter and boasts an impressive 4.6-second 40-yard dash. He currently is being recruited by numerous Division 1 collegiate programs. In addition, seven FA football players were selected to the All-District first team. Kudos to punter Brazell, running back Ray Lewis III, receiver/defensive back Darius Lis, linebackers Riley and Rylan Thomas, quarterback Brendon Tillett and center Carl Womack. |

The Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Pointe and Keene’s Pointe Ladies Golf Association co-hosted their second annual golf tournament to benefit Women Playing for T.I.M.E. The event raised more than $24,000 for the organization, which supports cancer technology, immediate diagnosis, mammography and education. |

Jewish Family Services hosted its Glow & Golf nighttime golf tournament. The event included glow-in-the-dark golf balls, nine holes of golf, food, prizes and more. Proceeds benefited JFS’s Get Caught Caring Campaign, which provides toys and food during the holiday season for families in need. |

Former University of South Florida soccer standout Aubrey “Tre” Perry was selected in the second round of the 2012 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, presented by adidas. Perry was selected 26th overall by the Columbus Crew. In his final year at USF, he was selected to the All-Big East third team and helped lead the Bulls defense to seven shutouts. Congratulations to the following Dr. Phillips High School teams and student-athletes who were recently recognized for their accomplishments: Senior cross country runner Annais Pena was invited to participate in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Cross Country All-Star Meet. Pena finished eighth overall and first in the East squad. Football quarterback Nick Patti and offensive lineman Sam Ranieri were invited to participate in the 13th annual Central Florida High School All-Star Football Game. Patti was named offensive player of the year by the Orlando Touchdown Club and Class 8A Player of the Year by the Florida Dairy Farmers, making him a finalist for the 2011 Mr. Football award. Trey Griffey and Patti were named to the All-Central Florida first team. Assistant football coach and head softball coach Ricky Santo, a DPHS graduate, was hired by Urban Meyer as a member of the football coaching staff at The Ohio State University. Graduates Ha’Sean Clinton-Dix and Demetrius “Dee” Hart, freshmen members of the University of Alabama’s football team, will receive Bowl Championship Series national championship rings. UA defeated Louisiana State University 21-0 in the BCS title game. DPHS’s three-time defending state champion and 2011 national champion competitive cheerleading squad won the Universal Cheerleaders Association regional championship and 2012 Florida High School Athletic Association regional championship. |
