The Central Florida Wolverines baseball team defeated the state’s No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 teams to be named champion in the 9-under Elite Division at the U.S. Specialty Sports Association Thanksgiving Super NIT tournament that was held at ESPN Wide World of Sports. The win earned the team an automatic bid to play in the 2012 Elite World Series that will be held this summer and feature the top 32 teams in the country. |

Alex Apuzzo scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Lions to a 66-57 overtime win against Merritt Island High School, and guard Halee Davis scored a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead her team to a 48-35 win over Faith Christian Academy. Both of the FA juniors were named to their respective All-Tournament teams. Apuzzo also was recognized by head coach Andrew DeClercq as FA’s player of the week. |

During U.S. Tennis Association Florida’s 62nd annual awards ceremony, Susie Rahimitabar of Orange Bay was honored with the 2011 USTA Florida Volunteer of the Year Award. Rahimitabar works at Lake Cane Tennis Center as director of junior programs, which includes QuickStart Tennis Levels I and II, and Munchkins; director of Fun & Sun Tennis Camp; and MG Tennis in-house singles league coordinator. She and her son, Jason, also maintain a free agents list to connect interested players and teams. |
