The Windermere Wildfire ‘00 softball team took home top honors in the 10-under division from the Shocktoberfest tournament held at Shocker Park Softball Complex in Ocala. The girls defeated the Belleview Blast and Gainesville Gold to win their second consecutive 10-under championship. Prior to the tournament, the team attended a softball camp at the University of Florida. |
Kevin Boyle, recipient of the 2011 Naismith Boys High School Coach of the Year award, is the new men’s varsity basketball coach at Montverde Academy. |
Kevin Boyle joined the staff at Montverde Academy as coach of the men’s varsity basketball team. Boyle, whose career began in 1988, previously coached at St. Patrick High School in New Jersey and was named the 2011 Naismith Boys High School Coach of the Year, 2008-09 ESPN RISE National Coach of the Year, and 2007 USA Today National Coach of the Year. He holds a career record of 551 wins and 129 losses, and many of his students have gone on to play basketball at prestigious universities. HBO recently broadcast the documentary Prayer for a Perfect Season, which followed Boyle and SPHS’s Celtics basketball team throughout the 2010-11 season. |

The Orlando Touchdown Club recognized Olympia High School football player Kyle King as the Week 4 Defensive Player of the Week. During OHS’s 17-15 win against rival Apopka High School, King registered 21 tackles, three of which were for losses; as well as two pass breakups. |

With a final score of 4-1, the Wildfire clinched a win in the 14-under division, which the team recently has begun playing up to. |

Jacqui Concolino, a student at Celebration Golf Clubs Ping nFlight Fitting and Teaching Studios, won her first professional golf tournament. The Orlando resident finished the 54-hole Suncoast Ladies Series tournament at Reunion Resort with a 17 under-par 199. She followed up the first-place finish with another win at SLS’s tournament at MetroWest Golf Club, shooting a 10-under-par 206. Concolino received cash prizes of $2,000 for each tournament. |
