Southwest Middle peer mediators were recognized during an Orange County Public Schools board meeting for a video highlighting their contributions to SWMS’s Autistic Unit. Students volunteer as peer mediators to aid in the safety and educational needs of the school’s autistic students, as well as serve as models for autism awareness and compassion for others. |

After graduating from Dr. Phillips High in 2003, Bobby Adelson Jr. and Danny Snow began the annual Hug Life Award Scholarship. The men collect their spare change throughout the school year and give one $500 scholarship to a college-bound senior who demonstrates courtesy and respect for fellow students, teachers and administrators, and is active in the community. Congratulations to Bianca Alvarez for being named the award recipient for the 2010-11 school year. Bianca is currently a freshman at Florida State University. |

Foundation Academy held a weeklong homecoming celebration with a different theme each day. The festivities concluded with a Spirit Day and pep rally before the football game. During halftime, seniors Kelvin Ankoh and Kylie Butcher were crowned homecoming king and queen. Afterward, students attended a luau-themed dance in the gymnasium. |

Foundation Academy fifth grade math students participated in a hands-on math project where they used measurements and fraction skills to make “puppy chow.” The children were challenged to increase the recipe enough to share with their grandparents in honor of Grandparents Day. |
