Ashleigh Anne Johnson passes away at age 38. |
Ashleigh Anne Johnson, daughter of longtime South Bay residents John and Wanda Hullett, passed away Aug. 2, 2011, at age 38. Ashleigh was born Sept. 21, 1972, in Decatur, Ga.; however, her family has deep roots in Central Florida. Her great, great, great grandfather settled in Pasco County in 1842, years before Florida became a state. The Hulletts have lived in Southwest Orlando since 1987. Ashleigh attended Dr. Phillips High School, where she was a member of cheerleading squad. She graduated from DPHS in 1990 and received a bachelor’s in political science from Elon University, North Carolina, in 1994. She worked as a pharmaceutical representative for inVentiv Health and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Ashleigh recently had relocated to Boca Raton, where she enrolled in a GRE preparation course at Nova Southeastern University. |

She planned to earn a Doctor of Psychology at the University of Miami, with the hopes of one day working with troubled teenagers — a longtime dream of hers. Ashleigh suffered a head injury in May 2010 and was diagnosed with epilepsy. However, she continued to enjoy many of her favorite activities, including cycling along the Atlantic Ocean, sometimes biking up to 35 miles in one day. She leaves behind her two dogs, Deliah and Zoe, a Doberman pinscher and Weimaraner, respectively. Ashleigh is survived by her parents; brother, Michael; sisters, Stephanie Cathcart, Susie Cloninger, Donna Danks, Amy Johnson, Gengie Nail and Kristin Wright; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke, and arrangements were entrusted to Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Gotha. Her ashes will rest in the columbarium at The Cathedral Church of Saint Luke and be strewn in the ocean off the coasts of Boca Raton and Fiji, her favorite locations. Memorials in her honor have been established at Epilepsy Foundation of Florida in West Palm Beach; Horses Healing Hearts Inc. in Lake Worth; and Doberman Rescue of the Triad in Greensboro, N.C. |
