The nonprofit organization is committed to community and economic development through enrichment programs. Event proceeds cobenefited scholarships and school supplies for east Winter Garden students, as well as went toward materials to improve substandard homes of senior and physically impaired residents. |

Nature and current events inspire Windermere artist Nancy Adams. |
Artist Nancy Adams, who received a Master of Fine Arts degree and has taught art and art history at the college level, is working on her latest series of art pieces, which explores figurative imagery. The Windermere resident is inspired by nature and current events, and each series she creates generally consists of six to 20 pieces. Nancy recently completed an Ausable River series that included a 6-footby-8-foot oil painting of the river, which is located in the Adirondack Mountains. |

Denison University students Yasmine LaSalle of Winter Garden and Jennifer Murphy of Windermere, both members of the Class of 2015, were awarded scholarships from the school. Yasmine was recognized with a Tyree/Parajon Scholarship, which provides about one-half of tuition costs and recognizes academic achievement, leadership and personal merit, as well as DU’s commitment to diversifying the community. Jennifer received a Denison Founders Scholarship, which also provides about one-half of tuition costs and recognizes academic achievement, leadership and personal merit. |

Lung cancer survivor and local resident Joan Tashbar is organizing the inaugural Free to Breathe Orlando 5K Fun Run/Walk and 1 Mile Walk to benefit the National Lung Cancer Partnership and its research, education and awareness programs. The event will be held Nov. 19 at 7 a.m. at Moss Park, located at 12901 Moss Park Road in Orlando. The cost is $20 if paid online by Nov. 14; $23 if mailed and received by Nov. 11; and $25 the day of the event. The registration fee includes all-day access to Moss Park and its amenities.
