| Dr. Phillips Elementary fourth-grade teacher Sara Bardoe participated in a weeklong program at the George Washington Teachers’ Institute, which presented an intensive study about President George Washington at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens. Attendees listened to discussions by noted scholars, participated in hands-on exhibits, and viewed galleries with authentic artifacts. Ms. Bardoe stayed on the estate and met with some of Mount Vernon’s historians, curators and educators. |

Lake Whitney Elementary 2010-11 third-grader Abby-Carlyle Ross won the school’s cabbage growing contest sponsored by Bonnie Farms. The 25.5-pound cabbage is the largest in the history of LWES’s six-year competition. Abby-Carlyle is now entered in the state level of the competition, which awards the winner a $1,000 college scholarship. Her proud parents are Jon and Shannon Ross of Winter Garden. |
