| Congratulations to the following Dr. Phillips High School teams and student-athletes who were recently recognized for their accomplishments: The women’s tennis team won its district championship, and Sarah Baron and Maria Contreras advanced to the state competition. Baron also was named to the All-Central Florida second team. The men’s tennis team won its first regional championship and advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 2005. Individual district champions were Kyle Morioka, Rafael Peralta, Peter San Pedro and Cooper Vissers. At the state tournament, San Pedro captured the line three championship, making him the first men’s tennis player in DPHS history to win a state championship. Women’s lacrosse earned its second district championship in the school’s history. Scorers were Katherine Breese, Sarah Hamp, Amanda Moore and Sarah Otsuka. Goalie Mia Emmerson recorded nine saves. Basketball player Taryn Griffey was named to the women’s All-Southern team, and Shane Larkin received an honorable mention for the men’s team. |
The Orlando All-Star Jays cheerleading squad, which trains at Orlando All-Stars Cheerleading and Tumbling Gym in Gotha, places first at the National Cheerleading Association Daytona Beach International Classic. |
