Kudos to YMCA Aquatic Center’s YCF Diving team for placing second at the 2011 U.S. Diving Spring East Junior Nationals held in Knoxville, Tenn. The team was led by Phillips Landing resident Grayson Kim, who finished second in the 1-meter springboard and fourth in the 3-meter springboard. Maggie Merriman of Kensington Park placed 12th in the 1-meter and fifth in the 3-meter; and Windermere residents Emma and Mya Kraeger finished ninth and seventh in the 1-meter and ninth and second in the 3-meter, respectively. Other notable finishers included Jack and Joey Dowd of Bay Hill. |

| Central Florida Christian Academy head football coach Monty Vann will host youth football camps through July 21 at CFCA for athletes ages 8 through 13. Clinics will be held Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and focus on speed training, conditioning and position fundamentals. | Corian Hamilton was named 2010-11 male student-athlete of the year at Olympia High School. Hamilton earned nine varsity letters in football, basketball and weightlifting. He holds school records in football and was selected for the All-Central Florida and All-State Class 6A first teams. He was the inaugural male recipient of the Chris Johnson Scholarship award and will play football at the University of South Florida. Shadaey Campbell and Karley White received 2010-11 co-female student-athletes of the year honors. Campbell was a member of the varsity weightlifting team, and she holds two school records in track. She earned Metro, district and regional track championships and placed third at the state level. She was the inaugural female recipient of the Chris Johnson Scholarship award and will attend Jacksonville University on a track scholarship. White received seven varsity letters for which she earned 250 goals and 117 assists throughout her four years. She is a four-time Metro champion and threetime All-Metro first team selection. She was a member of the 2010 U.S. Under- 19 Women’s National Team and helped earn three district titles for OHS. She will play lacrosse at Rollins College. |
| Olympia High School graduate Chris Johnson, a running back for the NFL Tennessee Titans, returned to OHS to hold a youth football camp and celebrity basketball game. The event was cohosted by Edgewater High School graduate and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker. Johnson and Sims-Walker also awarded scholarships to OHS Female Athlete of the Year and track star Shadaey Campbell and football player Corian Hamilton. Johnson also presented a personalized 2011 Pro Bowl jersey to Athletic Director Tom Curran. It will hang in the school’s gym next to Johnson’s retired OHS jersey. |
