Crowded lobbies of sick people and hours spent waiting to see a physician are finally things of the past. At least it is at Personalized Primary Care. James G. Scelfo, M.D., opened Personalized Primary Care of Celebration and, most recently, Windermere. PPC is a membership-based family practice that offers patients an option to receive more personalized health care. By charging a membership fee, Dr. Scelfo is able to limit his practice to 600 patients, a significant difference from the typical family practice of more than 4,000 patients. Although this concierge-style of medicine has been successful throughout the country, Dr. Scelfo was the first to bring his vision of this particular brand of personalized medicine to Central Florida, and has had 12 successful years of business. The vision of PPC is comprehensive, individualized health care. The goal is not only to provide medical care, but to educate each patient about all aspects of their personal health care needs. It is modern medicine in an old-fashioned style. PPC’s practice philosophy is to provide optimal evidence-based, patient-centered health care through guaranteed patient access, education and preventative medicine. This means that the patient-physician relationship is built on trust, understanding and mutual respect. Patients are not only given the personalized time needed for each visit, but also have direct access to Dr. Scelfo 24 hours per day. PPC offers same-day and next-day emergent appointments at either location as an added convenience. Upon joining, patients receive an initial comprehensive 90-minute consultation/physical, where Dr. Scelfo goes over their complete medical history, with all follow-up appointments scheduled for at least 30 minutes. The staff at PPC helps coordinate insurance authorizations and referrals. Memberships are offered for individuals, couples and families, with several different payment plans to suit patients’ needs. It is high-quality medicine that is both accessible and convenient.

Almost 6 million Americans suffer from wounds that take longer than two weeks to heal. Known as chronic wounds, many of these wounds are associated with complications from diabetes or can result from vascular disorders. Other types of chronic wounds originate from pressure sores or trauma. Chronic wounds are not only an uncomfortable problem for those who suffer from them, but they also place patients at heightened risk for serious infections, circulation problems, nerve damage and even loss of extremities. Health Central Hospital’s staff members understand the needs and challenges of patients coping with chronic wounds. Health Central Hospital, which has been treating west Orange County residents for more than 60 years, offers patients a state-of-the-art, highly specialized Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center with the latest technologies and care regimens for the effective treatment of chronic wounds. The Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy combined with inclusive on-site wound care. HBO therapy is used to treat a variety of wounds and infections by improving the body’s immune system and advancing the healing response. The clear, spacious, acrylic, tubular chamber provides 100 percent oxygen to create a comfortable healing environment, allowing tissue to restore from the inside out. In addition, Health Central Hospital’s Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center physicians and support team develop customized treatment plans designed to not only treat patients, but also to educate and empower them on the road to faster recovery. Therapies include wound debridement, specially chosen dressings and wraps, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, ultrasonic debridement, platelet-derived growth technologies, bioengineered tissue substitutes and lymphedema treatment. These approaches can lead to the healing of chronic wounds in 16 weeks or less and significantly enhance comfort and the quality of life for patients. The ability to offer this level of quality care to the west Orange County community is an essential part of Health Central Hospital’s belief that health care begins with caring.

Sinus & Facial Plastics Institute is the first and only facility in Central Florida dedicated to the complete medical care of the nose, both functional and cosmetic. The facility is located in Dr. Phillips, near Windermere, MetroWest, Hunter’s Creek and Celebration, with easy accessibility from all areas of Central Florida via Interstate 4 and Florida’s Turnpike. The institute is equipped with fiber-optic endoscopic and microscopic diagnostic systems, a professional photo and video studio with computer imaging, and an on-site high-resolution CT scanner, providing both conventional and 3-D image analysis of nasal and sinus structures. Wade W. Han, M.D., FACS, has more than 20 years of research and clinical experience in treating thousands of patients with chronic sinusitis, nasal obstructions and external nasal deformities or imperfections. His double board-certified expertise enables him to evaluate the nose and sinus structures as a whole and treat them in a complete and systematic manner, achieving optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes, while avoiding many potential limitations and pitfalls found in one-dimensional approaches. Patients no longer need to find a separate specialist to deal with both cosmetic and medical needs. Many of the facility’s referrals come by word of mouth from happy, satisfied patients. Some patients come to the institute after experiencing unsatisfactory results at other practices. Dr. Han was educated and trained at Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He has published many articles on the subject of rhinoplasty and sinusitis in leading professional plastic surgery and rhinology journals. The state-of-the-art facility, as well as Dr. Han’s credentials and experience, have established Sinus & Facial Plastics Institute as Central Florida’s center of excellence in total nose care.
